Infinite Forest is a sector of the patrol zone on Mercury. It is part of the Curse of Osiris expansion for Destiny 2.
Overview
The Infinite Forest is set on Mercury. The Vex have hollowed out the planet's core and have replaced it with a device that generated this shifting sector.
It is described as "a simulated reality in the middle of time, controlled by the Vex." This means that it is a shifting location. It will change, depending on the current player actions. As players progress through various activities in the zone, the zone itself will adapt and alter itself.
Mechanics
The Infinite Forest, unlike most planetary sectors which are primarily meant to host Adventures, cannot be entered from The Lighthouse unless the fireteam is participating in an activity that passes through the location.
If such an activity is currently active, the Infinite Forest will generate a path that takes the fireteam from the Lighthouse entrance to an entrance to the appropriate Simulant sector; however, only one to two chunks of the path are tangible at a time, and a door at the chunk's end must be opened in order to load the next chunk. Already-created chunks will disappear if the fireteam gets sufficiently far away from them, but they will reappear once the fireteam comes back within range.
Some chunks contain one or more Major units called Daemons - the doors at the ends of these chunks only unlock once all Daemons have been killed, indicated by the message "Forest pathway cleared". If this message displays upon entering a chunk, that means the door unlocked automatically due to no Daemons spawning.
In the Infinite Forest, all Elite Enemies, regardless of their usual faction conventions, have the Axis prefix - this is due to all enemies in the Infinite Forest being Vex or Vex simulations.
For the fireteam's convenience, entrances to all Simulant sectors have Vex teleporters which warp the fireteam back to the Lighthouse entrance, allowing for quick backtracking upon adventure completion.
